Washoe County Assessor
Joshua Wilson
Washoe County Assessor

Josh Wilson is the Assessor of Washoe County, home of the beautiful Lake Tahoe and the friendly, vibrant communities of Reno and Sparks.  His jurisdiction includes roughly 171,500 parcels covering 6,600 square miles with the majority of those parcels located in the Reno/Sparks metropolitan area.  Washoe County has an assessed value of $13.3 billion for FY 2010/2011, down from a high 2 years ago of $17.1 billion, and property is assessed at 35% of its taxable value.  He was elected to the office of County Assessor in 2006 and has provided over 21 years of public service to the citizens of Washoe County.

Josh is a member of the International Association of Assessing Officers (IAAO), the Nevada Assessors Association and Nevada NACO. He has served as both President and Vice President of the Nevada Assessors Association and continues to serve on their Legislative and Regulatory committees.  Some of the accomplishments made thus far under his administration include:  an annual reappraisal of all property subject to taxation, a transition from the antiquated ARC-info mapping software to the state of the art ARC-GIS platform, a conversion to a new Personal Property database and an expansion of the Assessor’s website (www.washoecounty.us/assessor), all while reducing the overall operating budget of the Assessor’s office by over 20% in reaction to our economic crisis.

Josh grew up in the Washoe County, graduating from Sparks High School and the University of Nevada with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Management.  He has been married to his wife Alyson for 16 years and has two children, Austin and Sierra.
